In case you are wondering what makes the difference…..
It’s not the camera, it’s not the location…it’s the IMAGINATION.
Why do I want to make sure we catch the sunlight in your photo?
Why am I always creating new collages and announcements?
Why do some people love my photos while others do not?
Why do I ask for you to be patient and allow me time to “work” with your photos?
Because that is my style….. I have an idea in mind the moment I get to your session. I imagine what your photos may look like if you stand in a certain place… and what wonderful expression I may get if I take your photo with you unaware.
Do you realize that many photographers have the exact same cameras/equipment and knowledge of the basics? As you flip through the internet searching for a “good” photographer I want you to realize that the editing of the photos you see is just as important as the actual photo shoot.
The editing of my photos defines my personal style and is often reflective of my state of mind at the time of editing. The time of day, mood of my clients and atmosphere of my shoot will have a dramatic effect on the choices I will make once I begin going through photos. I usually go through several stages during the editing process beginning with flipping through the shots taken, narrowing down to the ones I like, then creating magic with my favorites. The editing process really expresses more about me than what was expressed during the actual photo shoot.
Photo shoots are fun and a whirlwind at best. My general rule of thumb is, if I have not gotten that "WOW" moment during the shooting of a sequence, I keep shooting till I do. If I don't, I know that the only thing that will save that sequence is a stroke of luck that I caught a moment I missed, or some damn innovative editing once I get home. (lol)
My work as your photographer is not over until the editing and post production is completed and you have viewed your portraits. A good editing job makes the difference between an OK acceptably professional job and something very unique and special. I could use all of the RAW material from the same photo shoot and produce what would look like two totally different photographs simply by editing. Moods expressed as cold and detached to intense and passionate from exactly the same source. All of this is why I feel that the editing of the photo shoot is an extension of ME, and I am proud of that.
As a person that is naturally creative, my photography gives me a portal to express emotion that I otherwise may not be able to. I know without a doubt that being a photographer is the path that was intended for me. I cannot begin to explain to you how much joy I gain from seeing the smile on my client's face once they see their photos. I get butterflies in my tummy before opening up images on my computer and working my magic as they come to life. I have been known to have a passion for a field in the country, peeling bright pink painted walls, and capturing the moments that you felt may be disastrous.
I have a knack for finding beauty in each moment of beautiful chaos. I promise to artistically document your beautiful chaos in your upcoming session.
Sincerely,
Lara Massey
