I could tell you that I love to take pictures, but you already know that. Instead, I think I will tell you that I have a passion for capturing moments. As a mother, I know how fleeting the moments are with your children. From the first smile to the first step, I know how you feel. I want to capture those moments for you to treasure forever. As a wife, I understand passion in love, the excitement of marriage, and the moments of "real life" that bring it all together. I want to document those for you.

I know without a doubt that being a photographer is the path that was intended for me. I can not begin to explain to you how much joy I gain from seeing the smile on my client's face once they see their photos. I get butterflies in my tummy before opening up images on my computer andworking my magic as they come to life. I have been known to have a passion for a field in the country, peeling bright painted walls, and capturing the moments that you felt may be disasterous. I have a knack for finding beauty in each moment of beautiful chaos. I promise to artistically document your beautiful chaos in your upcoming session.

Sassy Massey Photography creates captivating portraits that celebrate the many stages of your life including personalized senior portrait, family portrait, individual portrait, maternity & newborn photography, special event photography, engagement & wedding photojournalism.

"What happens if I do not like my photos?"

November 08, 2012

I feel the need to address a question I have received. "What happens if I do not like my photos?"

First, please understand that photography is an Art. Every photographer has a style of their own, and I would assume most people book a specific photographer because of that "style". Please understand that your session will fall in line with my portfolio - meaning it will be similar to the previews you have viewed. With that being said, IF the photography of your session was truly not consistent with my portfolio, then I myself – the artist – would be first to notice. And you’d probably have received a phone call from me up the minute I saw the images and worked something out. You wouldn’t have even gotten to a preview or a disc.

I can’t make a client fall in love with images when they hate how they look. What I can do is go through and talk about how I see the images, focusing on the emotions and moments. If we were really at an impasse, and I had truly done my job in creating and culling flattering images, then additional shooting time probably wouldn’t help a whole lot. So, given that the problem is not the photography, the solution will depend on what exactly went wrong. I can not “argue” with aesthetic taste but I will always be willing to fix a photo that has resolution issues or problems caused by equipment failure.

I try to prepare my clients, by having them look at my work and tell me what they like and do not like. I ask "Do you want a mixture of Black/White & Color Images?" preparing you for the images you will receive on your disc. At the end of the day, a photographer still spends time prepping, communicating, scouting, packing, checking, driving, shooting, editing, etc. This is time away from my family, and money in gas. I'm providing a service, not only a product – and can’t just be “tried on” without substantial cost. It’s critical that we are a good fit for each other.

As stated on my website: Due to the nature of digital photography and the fact that photographs, once sent, cannot be returned; Sassy Massey Photography has a strict No Refunds Policy. Once a transaction has been completed (i.e., the buyer selected and paid for the photo session and then Sassy Massey Photography sent the buyer the Disc of Images/Prints) it is then considered non-refundable. Refunds will NOT be given due to not liking a photo, selecting an incorrect photo for printing after buyer has already received the photograph, or any other reason. If a mistaken photo is sent to the buyer, as documented on the invoice, Sassy Massey Photography will send the correct photo to the buyer.

Pricing is for photographer's time, talent, disc of images chosen & edited by the photographer and a print release.

As an added service and discount to my clients I offer a Shared Copyright with all sessions:

Shared copyright ~ I want you to have full freedom and flexibility in choosing your photos. That is why I offer my clients a disc of all edited photos. You will be granted shared copyright privileges which simply means that while Sassy Massey Photography by Lara still owns the images, you as the client, have rights to them as well. This includes unlimited sharing via web or email, printing and copying and enlarging. You may not, however, alter them and claim them as your own. {I.e. convert a color photo to black and white and share it as one you yourself have taken.} When sharing your photographs publicly, credit shall always be attributed to Sassy Massey Photography. You will get a copy of your pictures on DVD's in .JPG format so you can easily print, email, crop and share your photos with family and friends. I will also include a PRINT RELEASE form that allows you may make any reprints/enlargements, etc. at your convenience. This ensures that no one will give you a hard time when you try to make your own reprints. Not many photographers will give you this because they want you to come back to them for your reprints and they drive the price up by as much as 300% to make a great profit. You are in control of your photos. Once you pick up the disc, the print release form gives you full rights to your prints. Print and enlarge as many as you'd like for a price you can afford.

I hope this explains my policy and that it does not come across the wrong way.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to seeing you all soon!
